The Lake District National Park in Cumbria is one of the most stunning areas on earth to visit. Your time in the Lake District will differ though depending on the month of your visit. The Lakes are wonderful at any time of year but my recommendation is to visit in either April or September. The reasons for this are the weather and less crowding.
As the Lakes is a mountainous area that’s close to the Irish sea, the question isn’t if it will rain today, but when and how much? Lake District weather is usually a conversation topic all year round. October to March tend to be rainy months as, surprisingly, so do July and August. Bear in mind though that it can rain heavily at any time. It’s also not unusual for it to be raining in one town and dry in another town just a few miles away.
Peak visitor time tends to be concentrated around the summer months and UK bank holidays such as Easter. Given that the Lake District is only a small rural area and that roads are often narrow, getting around
in the summer can be difficult. You’ll also find that the cost of Lake District hotels and Lake District cottages rise greatly as visitor numbers increase. So choose April or September to visit the Lakes. You’ll generally be reasonably warm and dry and you will not have to fight your way through traffic jams and masses of people.
